Daily Readings

First Reading - 1 Jn 4:11-18

11 My dearest, if God hath so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abideth in us: and his charity is perfected in us.
13 In this we know that we abide in him, and he in us: because he hath given us of his spirit.
14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father hath sent his Son to be the Saviour of the world.
15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God abideth in him, and he in God.
16 And we have known and have believed the charity which God hath to us. God is charity: and he that abideth in charity abideth in God, and God in him.
17 In this is the charity of God perfected with us, that we may have confidence in the day of judgment: because as he is, we also are in this world.
18 Fear is not in charity: but perfect charity casteth out fear, because fear hath sin. And he that feareth is not perfected in charity.

Gospel - Mk 6:45-52

45 And immediately he obliged his disciples to go up into the ship, that they might go before him over the water to Bethsaida, whilst he dismissed the people.
46 And when he had dismissed them, he went up to the mountain to pray,
47 And when it was late, the ship was in the midst of the sea, and himself alone on the land.
48 And seeing them labouring in rowing, (for the wind was against them,) and about the fourth watch of the night, he cometh to them walking upon the sea, and he would have passed by them.
49 But they seeing him walking upon the sea, thought it was an apparition, and they cried out.
50 For they all saw him, and were troubled bled. And immediately he spoke with them, and said to them: Have a good heart, it is I, fear ye not.
51 And he went up to them into the ship, and the wind ceased: and they were far more astonished within themselves:
52 For they understood not concerning the loaves; for their heart was blinded.

First Reading - 1 Jn 4:7-10

7 Dearly beloved, let us love one another: for charity is of God. And every one that loveth is born of God and knoweth God.
8 He that loveth not knoweth not God: for God is charity.
9 By this hath the charity of God appeared towards us, because God hath sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we may live by him.
10 In this is charity: not as though we had loved God, but because he hath first loved us, and sent his Son to be a propitiation for our sins.

Psalm - Ps 72:2-4ab, 7-8

2 Give to the king thy judgment, O God, and to the king's son thy justice: To judge thy people with justice, and thy poor with judgment.3 Let the mountains receive peace for the people: and the hills justice. 4 He shall judge the poor of the people, and he shall save the children of the poor: and he shall humble the oppressor.
7 In his days shall justice spring up, and abundance of peace, till the moon be taken away. 8 And he shall rule from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth.

Gospel - Mk 6:34-44

34 And Jesus going out saw a great multitude: and he had compassion on them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd, and he began to teach them many things. 35 And when the day was now far spent, his disciples came to him, saying: This is a desert place, and the hour is now past: 36 Send them away, that going into the next villages and towns, they may buy themselves meat to eat. 37 And he answering said to them: Give you them to eat. And they said to him: Let us go and buy bread for two hundred pence, and we will give them to eat. 38 And he saith to them: How many loaves have you? go and see. And when they knew, they say: Five, and two fishes. 39 And he commanded them that they should make them all sit down by companies upon the green grass. 40 And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds and by fifties. First Reading - 1 Jn 3:22–4:6

22 And whatsoever we shall ask, we shall receive of him: because we keep his commandments and do those things which are pleasing in his sight.

23 And this is his commandment: That we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as he hath given commandment unto us.

24 And he that keepeth his commandments abideth in him, and he in him. And in this we know that he abideth in us by the Spirit which he hath given us.

1 Dearly beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits if they be of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

2 By this is the spirit of God known. Every spirit which confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:

3 And every spirit that dissolveth Jesus is not of God. And this is Antichrist, of whom you have heard that he cometh: and he is now already in the world. Read more

Psalm - Ps 2:7-8, 10-12

R  I will give you all the nations for an inheritance.

7 The Lord hath said to me: Thou art my son, this day have I begotten thee.

8 Ask of me, and I will give thee the Gentiles for thy inheritance, and the utmost parts of the earth for thy possession.

R  I will give you all the nations for an inheritance.

10 And now, O ye kings, understand: receive instruction, you that judge the earth.

11 Serve ye the Lord with fear: and rejoice unto him with trembling.

12 Embrace discipline, lest at any time the Lord be angry, and you perish from the just way.

R  I will give you all the nations for an inheritance.

Gospel - Mt 4:12-17, 23-25

12: Now when he heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew into Galilee; 13: and leaving Nazareth he went and dwelt in Caper'na-um by the sea, in the territory of Zeb'ulun and Naph'tali, 14: that what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: 15: "The land of Zeb'ulun and the land of Naph'tali, toward the sea, across the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles -- 16: the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and for those who sat in the region and shadow of death light has dawned." 17: From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." 23: And he went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every infirmity among the people. 24: So his fame spread throughout all Syria, and they brought him all the sick, those afflicted with various diseases and pains, demoniacs, epileptics, and paralytics, and he healed them. Psalm - Ps 72:1-2, 7-8, 10-11, 12-13

1: Give the king thy justice, O God, and thy righteousness to the royal son! 2: May he judge thy people with righteousness, and thy poor with justice! 7: In his days may righteousness flourish, and peace abound, till the moon be no more! 8: May he have dominion from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth! 10: May the kings of Tarshish and of the isles render him tribute, may the kings of Sheba and Seba bring gifts! 11: May all kings fall down before him, all nations serve him! 12: For he delivers the needy when he calls, the poor and him who has no helper. 13: He has pity on the weak and the needy, and saves the lives of the needy.

Second Reading - Eph 3:2-3a, 5-6

2: assuming that you have heard of the stewardship of God's grace that was given to me for you, 3: how the mystery was made known to me by revelation, as I have written briefly. 5: which was not made known to the sons of men in other generations as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit; 6: that is, how the Gentiles are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel.
